Wendland, Vernon "Vernie" January 23, 1926 - July 13, 2004 Lamberton, MN Memorial Service: 11:30 AM, Monday, July 19, 2004 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton Visitation: 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Monday, July 19, 2004 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton Vernon Victor Wendland was born January 23, 1926 in Cottonwood County, MN, the son of Richard and Ida (Matzke) Wendland. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1944 and served in the European Theater during World War II. Vernon was honorably discharged in May of 1946 and returned to the Lamberton area where he began work as a carpenter. He was united in marriage to Arlene Erickson on August 20, 1952 in Redwood Falls. After working with a couple of construction firms, Vernon began his own carpentry business and continued until his health forced him into retirement. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Andrew Peterson American Legion Post #41, and a lifetime member of the VFW. Vernon enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching westerns on TV, gardening, and especially enjoyed his family and grandchildren. Vernon Victor Wendland died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at his home in Lamberton at the age of 78 years. He is survived by wife- Arlene of Lamberton; children- Cheryl and husband Donald Johnson of Florida, Elona and husband Bruce Graff of Minneapolis, Paulette and husband Barry Pietz of Arizona, Dan and wife Nona Wendland of Arizona, and Vickie Anderson of Arizona; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother and friend- Maynard (Mick) and wife Marge Wendland of Lamberton; sisters- Iona Knoll of Aitkin, MN and Lydia Abbot of California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers- Elmer, Reuben, Leonard, Ervie and Eddie; and sisters- Elde Wendland, Emma Wolf and Edna Culbert.
