The Twin Deal

| Williams AFB, Reese AFB, Japan

William Richard Grambley, a twin, is 15 minutes older than his brother, George Willard Grambley.  Because of the "Twin Deal" passed by President Truman during WWII they were able to use their "twinship" to their advandage.  he law essentially read that due the extreme closenes of twins they should not be separated unless it is their choice.  Bill was oiginally stationed at Williams AFB and when Will enlisted in 1946 he used the twin deal to be stationed with Bill.  When Bill was tansferred to Reese AFB in Lubbock Texas, Will followed.  Bill was again transferred to Williams AFB, AZ and again they used the twin deal for Will and his family to join him.  About 1956 Will received orders for Japan.  He figured he'd use the twin deal to stay with Bill.  Will went to his commanding officer and reminded him that he and Bill shouldn't be separated and requested that they stay together.  He expected that he would be staying with Bill in AZ.  Instead, Will's commanding officer complied with Will's request and Bill found himself on the way to Japan to join will.    Obviously, their plan backfired.   When they returned to the States, Will was stationed in Illinois and Bill went to Westover AFB in MA.  They didn't pull the twin deal again as neither wanted to live where the other was.  They both returned to Arizona for retirement.  Submitted by JM Grambley Banks
