Rev. Russell Nelson, 78, of Micco, passed away Tuesday, August17,2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.
Born June 13, 1926, at Ranger, he was a son of the late Frank and Cordelia Gartin Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was precededindeath by four sisters, Mabel and Lilly Nelson, Maxine Lambert and MarlenePatterson, and three brothers, Harold, Junior and Richard Nelson.
Rev. Nelson was a retired coal miner, employed with Youngstown Mining Company, a veteran of World War II and a member of the UMWA. He was a 58-year member and former pastor for 48 years of the HillcrestFreewillBaptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorene Conley Nelson; one daughter, of Whitman; three sons; two sisters, Bonnie Tomblin of Ranger andAda Sexton of Barboursville; two brothers, Thearl Nelson of Columbus, Ohio, and Bill Nelson of Micco; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004, at theHillcrest Freewill Baptist Church at Micco with Rev. Linzel Wallsand Rev. Charles Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow inHighland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Hall, Mike Brown, Mike Adkins, Brian Lowe, George Howes and Dave Muenich.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Lambert, Thurman Rakes, Greg Castle, Dexter Thomas, Danny Castle, Don Vance and Dr. W.M. Mullen.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to theHillcrestFreewill Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 328, Omar, WV25638.
Collins Funeral Home of Switzer is in charge of the arrangements.
