Scarlet Fever

Louisiana

John's battalion was shipping off from Louisiana to Guam. His commanding officer saw that he was ill and pulled John out. He was hospitalized several weeks for treatment of scarlet fever, he was so sick with fever he ended up losing his skin. As it turns out John's illness was a blessing for him because his entire battalion was killed in Guam.
