Floyd Monroe Romick

| Sardis, Ohio

Monroe Romick grew up on the family farm in Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio, as the second of seven children born to Floyd and Lizzie Niemann Romick. He inherited a love of music from his parents. He was a gifted guitarist and singer and he also wrote songs. Growing up in the Great Depression, he knew the value of hard work.Monroe joined the Civilian Conservation Corps before joining the Army just three months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was always his desire to fly and when he was discharged from the Army, he reenlisted in the Army Air Corps. On his 25th birthday, he and a crew of seven took off from their base in New Guinea to search for a lost plane. The base lost contact with his plane and it was never recovered. He will continue to be remembered and honored by his family for generations to come.
