Levern Peyton - from Mississippi to Ohio

Levern served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II in Europe, and was awarded three medals.  He moved to Lorain about 1950 and was employed at American Shipyard for over 30 years, before his retirement as a foreman.  He later retired from the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department, as a corrections officer.

He was a charter member of Friendship Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, a Deacon, Trustee and member of the Building Committee for the new church.  He was a life member of the Lorain Branch of the NAACP, and also enjoyed gardening.
