Dale was drafted into the Army a year before Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. he was at home on leave when the bombing occured. He was in the regular army at first and transfered into the Army Air Corp. He was a navigator and flew 52 missions over German territory in Northern Africa, Italy and Europe during WWII.
