Obituary Clifford L. Messinger

Clifford L. Messinger, 81, of Schnecksville, formerly of Slatington, died Friday, May 16, 2008, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Gisella (Vattolo) Messinger. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on February 15. Born in Palmerton on March 7, 1927, Clifford was the son of the late Warren Sr. and Florence H. (Thomas) Messinger. He owned and operated the former Slatington Bicycle Center for 49 years before retiring in 1996. Concurrently, he worked as a vending machine mechanic for ARA Vending in Allentown and also drove school bus for the Northern Lehigh School District. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Slatington, where he formerly served on the consistory. Clifford formerly served on the board of directors of Union Cemetery Association of Slatington, and was a member of Allen O. Delke American Legion Post 16 and Vigilant Fire Company, both of Slatington.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008, Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, with Rev. Ernest C. Diefenderfer officiating. Family and friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday.
