Uncle Ralph and three brothers, my Dad, John Clement Schweit(35th Engineer Combat Battalion), my Uncle Frank Cletus Schweitzer (30th ID) and Uncle Vincent Schweitzer were all in the Battle of the Bulge, all in the Army, all within 30 miles of each other when the battle broke. Ralph was with the 285th Field Artillery Observation Battalion. It was half of his unit that was massacred by Joachim Peiper's SS Panzer Division at the Malmedy Massacre. Ralph carried guilt from that the rest of his life, that he lived and so many did not. Today we call it PTSD, shell shock in WWI, the 1000 yard stare in WWII.
