Anthony Karlunis

WWII Veteran:  U.S. Army, II Corps, 34th "Red Bull" Infantry Division, 805th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Recon Company.

Tony enlisted in the U.S. Army on 11 March 1942 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland and was selected for tank destroyer training at Camp Hood near Killeen, Texas.

The 105th Anti-tank Battalion was re-designated the 805th Tank Destroyer Battalion on 15 December 1941.

Their paths crossed as the 805th TD BN grew in size.  Tony deployed to Tidworth in Wiltshire County, England on 18 August 1942, and then shipped to Algeria and Tunisia to participate in the North African Theatre of Operations from 17 November 1942 through 13 May 1943.

The 805th TD BN would go on to the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations:

  • Naples-Foggia 9 Sept 1943 - 21 Jan 1944
  • Rome-Arno 22 Jan 1944 - 9 Sept 1944
  • North Apennines 10 Sept 1944 - 4 April 1945
  • Po Valley 5 April 1945 - 8 May 1945

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN:  Tony died in March 1979, and is interred at Saint John the Baptist Cemetery in Exeter, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
