Obituary

Elliott "Joe" Holden, 89, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 in St. Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem, PA. Born in Arkville, New York, he was the son of the late Wilson and Ethel (La Valley) Holden. For 53 years, Elliott was the husband of the late Irene E. (Beach) Holden before she passed away in 2000. During the European Campaign of WWII, he served with the 104th Infantry Division (Timberwolves) as a combat medic. From Belgium to Holland into Germany, he spent 195 consecutive days in combat. He was awarded a Bronze Star for conduct over and above the call of duty. After the war, Elliott worked in the diner business in Ilion, New York and Allentown, Pennsylvania. He went on to own three diners in Allentown. He was the owner of Elliott's Diner in Allentown for 36 years before retiring in 1994. Survivors: Children: Blaine Elliott husband of Barbara Holden of Cherryville, Joyce wife of Roger Hines of Macungie, Daryl James Holden of Washington Township, Donald Jay husband of Sharon Holden of Allentown and Jean wife of the late D. Scott Moore of Allentown. Grandchildren: Shane, Kristine, Jill, Lori, and Michael and two great-grandchildren Jessica and Jackson. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 26th will be preceded by a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Robert C Weir Funeral Home, 18th & Turner Sts., Allentown www.WeirFuneral.com. Interment will be at a later date in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Contributions: Veterans Organization of your choice.
