Life of John George Vincent McGuiness Jr.
1921-2006 | New York, N. Y.
John was the son of John G. McGuiness and Mabel Pritchard. His legal middle name was George, therefore he was a Junior. However John did not like his middle name & decided to use his Confirmation name of Vincent. All his adult records has V for his middle initial. He grew up in Brooklyn and Manhattan, N.Y. He had one brother, Robert. John went to Manhattan Prep. He graduated from the Tri State College in Indiana. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering. John was drafted in the army in 1943. They sent him to the University of Kentucky for additional training. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant. He was recommended for First Lieutenant but the President froze all promotions. After John's death his family was informed his promotion was activated to First Lieutenant after the war. He never knew it. John was sent to Japan for the post war occupation with the Army Corp of Engineers. After active duty John served in the Reserves for five years. John worked for several construction companies in Philadelphia, Pa. This is where he met his wife, Mary E. Jordan. They married on June 10, 1950 in Philadelphia at Holy Family Church. They lived in Delaware County, Pa. for 21 years. They raised a family of five children. They were members of St. Kevin's Catholic Church. In 1972 they moved their family to Belleair Beach, Florida. Mary resumed her career as a Registerd Nurse. John retired & enjoyed living the beach life on the Gulf of Mexico. John passed away on Dec. 21, 2006 in Largo, Pinellas Co., Florida. They had been married for 56 years.
