Church Information Given in Pension Application

To support his pension application, John Myers included this letter from his pastor, Jacob Van Vechten, which is a transcription of the baptismal entry for John dated 12 Mar 1781, in which his father is stated as being deceased. John was baptised in the Protestant Reformed Dutch Church of Schenectady. This entry gives his parents' names (including his mother's maiden name) and the names of the sponsors (like godparents). John, or Johannes, likely took the surname Myers from his mother's second husband. See the image to the right.
