Richard Scanlon Thompson

| Guadalcanal

On the night of  Oct. 23, 1943, while riding on the back of a fire truck on the island of Guadalcana, performing his duty  as a bomb salvage tec, Richard fell off the back of the open truck  into the mud when the truck hit a large pot hole.  Then while the truck was backing up, it accidently ran over both his legs fracturing his Right leg.  He would spend several months trying to heal, several additonal procedures  however, he was eventually sent back to the states to O'Reilly Vets hospital on March 31, 1944.  Unable to return to full duty he was discharged  on July 31,1944

My dad would have problems with circulation and open wounds on both his legs for the rest of his life.
