Macy Sherow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Macy Sherow, spent last weekend at his home here. He was inducted into the army in April and is now stationed at Metachon, N. J.

Macy Sherow Guard at Munitions Plant

Not all our men reach the headlines of nations' papers, but their services are none the less important because they happen to be stationed in some obscure location. Theirs is a tedious task at times. They labor on unnoticed, performing their duties, menial jobs at times, without benefit of decoration or glorification. But their job is important.

We recently heard of Macy Sherow. Macy is on guard duty, guarding a munitions plant, one of our arsenals -- a job that calls for perseverence, alertness, loyalty, constant watchfulness. He's the man behind the man behind the gun.

Letters From the Boys in U. S. Forces

P.F.C. Macy Sherow Writes from England

P.F.C. Macy Sherow, of Carmel, is now in England with the U. S. Army. Recently his mother received three letters from him which give a few highlights of his experiences on the trip across and sightseeing in London. His many friends back home, as well as his buddies in the service, will be interested in the following excerpts from his letters:

The following letter from England was dated Aug. 20th.

"There is another letter on the way and I'll write as soon as possible. Everything is fine here. We are in England. I can't, of course, say just where. The people here and the British soldiers are very nice to us. Our trip across wasn't bad at all. I wasn't sick at all. Having a little trouble with British money, but I'm catching on. Send over several cakes of soap. Don't need anything else, but would like some homemade fudge and anything else you can send. Can't get used to riding on left hand side of the road, but otherwise everything is swell. Change of address A.P.O. No. 505 -- otherwise same as before."

Two other letters received by Mrs. Sherow from her son are dated Aug. 18 and Sept. 1. The former was written while on the boat en route to England and told of trouble in keeping his equilibrium due to the rocking of the boat. While on the boat en route to England he was at work in the library checking in and out books.

The other letter, dated Sept. 1, was written in England and told of a trip to London with many places to go and much to see. He also said that while standing in front of Buckingham Palace an elderly gentleman who seemed to be a walking history told him all sorts of legends and stories about London. He also saw the effect of some of the air raids and viewed a photograph exhibit of news pictures of the air raids.

Mr. and Mrs. Macy Sherow recently received a letter from their son, who is now somewhere on the other side. In the letter he expressed his appreciation to the American Red Cross for the gifts he received before leaving. He wrote, "When I left the states the Red Cross gave me a sweater, wristlets, a hood, scarf and mits. They were all beautifully knit." A letter which he wrote on November 25th said he was in the hospital but not seriously ill. Macy Sherow, Jr., left this country early in the fall.

Cpl. Macy Sherow Jr., who was with Gen. Mark Clark's 5th Army overseas, has been promoted to T/S? and is in charge of a motor corps. Although he now has enough points to entitle him to return home, he will remain overseas for some time yet, as his work is considered essential.

Macy Sherow, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Macy Sherow, arrived at Fort Dix on Saturday, September 29th. He has received his discharge, after over three years of service overseas. He is now at the home of his parents.
