Chester (Chet) Gerbenskey, saved his fellow service men, when they were held down in a fox hole. A Japanese soldier threw a hand granade into the fox hole and before it exploded, Chester picked it up and was able to throw it back. Saving all the men from his company.

He earned a Silver Star in his later years for this action.
