     Robert W Joyce was residing in Cook County, Illinois and enlisted/reenlisted in Chicago, Ill. on 30 March, 1942 as a Private directly into the Air Corps.  Robert was born in 1921 in California and had completed 3 years of high school and was still single at enlistment. Robert had worked as a waiter before joining the Service prior to Pearl Harbor (either Army or National Guard).

   Robert would become a CAPTAIN/Commissioned Bombardier, assigned to the 321st Medium Bomber Group, and become the 448th Bomb Squadron Bombardier,  flying Combat in the Mediterranean Theatre in B-25 Mitchells. 

   Robert would become known as "Capt. "Dead-eye" Joyce. He became 1st LT. in March, 1944, and then Capt. in Sept. 1944 and also wounded-in-action 18 August, 1944.
