N. F. Cole Jr. had a sense of humor, especially when it came to government red tape.  His Enlistment Records asked for current Civil Occupation.  He wrote down

"Actor(Motion picture actor) or Director, Motion Picture(Motion picture) or Entertainer"

That was funny.   Dad was a simple farmer but was attending college at Mississippi Statue University.  He was allowed to leave school 6 months early to join the Army.  MSU mailed him his diploma--which was not in theater but in Agriculture.

This explains the Occupation recorded above.

Origin of his Name.

Dad was the second in the family to be named Newton Futral.  The family could never explain where that name came from.  He was often called "NF" by most of his friends and co-workers.  This was kinda ironic because he never called anyone by their real name.  He would often call my sister or her friends(or almost any woman) by the name of "Sally" as that was the name of my sister's favorite doll.  I think he was just not good at remembering names.

He had a brother who I only knew as Uncle "JD".  It was only after his death, that I found out he had a name; John David.  JD Cole was mentally challenged and lived his last days at Ellisville institution and he was the last of the siblings to pass away.
