My father, Allen R. Calfee, was a proud Army Veteran who enlisted on December 3, 1941. Fifty years to the date, he passed away. He had two funerals, one held in Morristown Tennessee, the other held in Chagrin Falls OH. His last funeral was held fifty years from the date of the infamous bombing of Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941.

Dad didn't talk about the War, as seems fairly common for the men who saw combat action during this awful event. It wasn't until after he died that his brother, Dale Calfee, (an Army Veteran of the Korean War), shared with our family several heroic events during my father's service. He was a sharpshooter and at one point during the war he had only one opportunity to shoot out a light bulb, thus shielding the men in his platoon from certain death.
