Lt Edger (NMI) Dorman, 310thBG,381stBS,KIA 8 Feb. 1944
1944 | Italy
Edgar Dorman was born in PA in 1922, Edger enlisted into the Army Air Corp on 9 March 1942. He was trained as a PILOT and he was assigned to the 321thBG, the 448th BS, and flew B-25 Mitchells in the MTO. He flew very dangerous Sea-Sweep Missions out of Lybia, Called "Detatched Service" at Gambut ..... code "Gambit Ganbut" Edger's friend, I believe might have even gone to school together before Combat Duty, was a pilot on some of Lt Dorman's Missions also.
He would have flown about 14 Missions with the 321st Bomb Group before being transferred to the 310th Bomb Group, the 381stBS until he was KIA. On 20 Jan. 1944, Lt Dorman was assigned as a FLIGHT LEADER. (Same day as Lt Gordon Prior) He flew in the same Mission on 8 Feb. 1944 as Lt Gordon also. Lt Dorman would have completed about 30 Combat Missions.
On this fateful day, Lt Dorman's Ship, B-25 G #42-4223 was hit directly by flak and the entire ship caught fire. On board was the Flight COMMANDER, Brig. General Davis D Graves, HQ 63rd Fighter Wing of the MAAF. Above is a photo of his widow, Eleanor F Graves, receiving an Award for her late husband in England.
