George T. Potts Born 11-1919 in Phila. Died 3-24-1944 KIA and buried in Florence American Cemetery, Florence, Italy. He graduated from West Phila. Catholic High School 1938 Was working in the Plumbing business before heading off to war. He was the youngest of Josephine Keevan & Michael W. Potts seven children.

T/Sgt George T Potts (1919-1944) was a B-24 HEAVY Engineer/Top Turret Gunner in the 449th BOMB GROUP, the 717th Bomb Squad.

The B-24 Heavy 449th Bomber Group was stationed out of Grottaglie, Italy.  Ship #42-7632 B-24 H, 10 men were lost when this aircraft went down.   The Combat Mission was to Steyr, Austria.  This was a 717th Bomb Squad B-24 lost on 24 March, 1944.

George is the brother of James J Potts of the 100th Bomb Group (The Bloody 100th) ... Please see the links to the Left, under the Map :)

   The B-24 Heavy 449th Bomber Group was stationed out of Grottaglie, Italy. Ship #42-7632 B-24 H, 10 men were lost when this aircraft went down. The Combat Mission was to Steyr, Austria. This was a 717th Bomb Squad B-24 lost on 24 March, 1944.  It is now known that one man survived and kept a Diary of his POW time.

George is the brother of James J Potts of the 100th Bomb Group (The Bloody 100th) ... Pictures and Stories are being provided by his niece Eileen, who had the priviledge of visiting her "Uncle George". . . an Uncle she never knew, at the American Cemetery at Florence, Italy.  American Battle Monuments Commission.
