Killed in a Training Mission Mid-Air
Collision.

Son of Joseph John Brady and
Mary (nee Kelliher) Brady

First Lieutenant Joseph J. Brady was a
B-25 Medium Bomber Pilot; and served
with the 12th Air Force; 57th Bombardment
Wing; 321st Bombardment Group; 446th
Bombardment Squadron. He had been
stationed in the Mediterranean Theater
of Operations (MTO); and had completed
50 bombing missions over North Africa;
Corsica; Sardinia; Sicily; and Italy.

He returned to the U.S.; and after a
furlough, he was assigned to the
Florence Army Air Field, in Florence,
SC, as an instructional Pilot, with
the CCTS, (Training Squadron); 334th
Base Unit.

1Lt. Joseph J. Brady was killed in the
Mid-Air Collision of two light bomber
aircraft, A-20J's; about 5 to 10 miles
East-Southeast of Lake City, Florence
County, South Carolina.

1Lt. Brady was in A/C: A-20J; serial#:42-21561;
which collided with A-20J; serial#:43-22089.
A total of 6 crew members from both planes
were killed.

1Lt Brady was survived by his Mother,
Mary Kelliher Brady; his three younger
sisters, Dorothy M.; Elizabeth E; and
Marianna Brady; his Maternal Grandmother,
Mrs. John J. Kelliher; and many other
relatives; friends; and comrades.

He was preceded in death by his Father,
Joseph John Brady, Sr., a World War 1
U.S. Army VETERAN; and by his Maternal
Grandfather, John J. Kelliher.

JOSEPH J. BRADY
Agawam, Aug 26 (1942) -- Lieut Joseph
J. Brady, son of Postmaster Mary Brady,
of Agawam, has been recently assigned
to the bomb group at the Army Air Base
at Walterboro, SC. Lieut. Brady received
his primary training at Maxwell Field,
ALA; basic at Helena, ARK; and advanced
flying at Greenville, MISS; and Valdosta,
GA, where he received his wings and commission
on the 5th (05 August 1942).

LIEUT. JOSEPH J. BRADY MISS DOROTHY M. BRADY

Two members of the family of Postmaster
Mary E. Brady, of Adams Street, Agawam,
are now in service. Her daughter,
Dorothy Marie Brady, having recently
enlisted in the Army Air Corps, will
report to duty Oct. 1 at Westover Field.
Her son, Lieut. Joseph J. Brady, who was
inducted into service Dec. 20, 1941,
has been in North Africa since May 30,

Miss Brady is a graduate of Agawam High
School and of Mercy Hospital Training
School for Nurses in February.

Lieut. Brady is also a graduate of Agawam
High School in 1938. He received his
training at Maxwell Field, ALA; Helena,
ARK; Greenville, MISS; and Valdosta, GA,
where he received his commission as a
Pilot August 4, 1942. He was then assigned
to Columbia, SC, and has since seen service
in Labrador and Greenland.

Miss Brady and Lieut. Brady are the children
of the late Joseph J. Brady, a Veteran of
World War 1.

SIX DEAD IN CRASH FATAL TO BRADY

SON OF AGAWAM POSTMASTER ONE OF
TWO OFFICERS AND FOUR ENLISTED
MEN IN COLLISION OF BOMBERS

First Lieutenant Joseph J. Brady,
son of Postmaster, Mary Brady, of
Agawam, was one of two officers
killed Sunday in the collision of
two light bombers near Lake City,
SC, which also took the lives of
four enlisted men, the Florence
Army Air Field in South Carolina,
announced yesterday. Both planes
were demolished.

Others killed in the crash were:

Second Lieut. Robert M. Nuckolls,
of Oakland, California.

Staff Sergt. William E. Rentz, of
Gilberton, California.

Sergt. William L. Munn, of Progress, PA

Corp. William J. Collier, of Hamden, CT.

and Corp. Richard M. Lavinder, of West Virginia.

A graduate of Agawam High School,
Lieut. Brady entered the Air Forces
in December 1941. He was commissioned
a Pilot at Valdosta, GA; and received
combat training at several bases in
this country before going into actual
combat. He saw action over Italy;
Corsica; Sardinia; Sicily; and Greece.
He won the Air Medal with Oak Leaf
Cluster. At the time of his death,
he was serving as an instructor at
the Florence Army Air Base, SC.

He leaves his mother; three sisters,
Lieut Dorothy Brady, of the Army Nurse
Corps, stationed in Clovis, NM; Elizabeth
E.; and Marianna; and his Grandmother,
Mrs. John J. Kelliher, of Spring Street,
Springfield.

The funeral will be held at the Curran-Jones
Funeral Home in West Springfield, with
Solemn High Mass of Requiem, at the Church
of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will
be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

The Military Funeral of First Lieutenant
Joseph John Brady, son of Mrs. Mary Brady,
of Adams Street, Agawam, will be held
this morning at 8:30 at the Curran-Jones
Funeral Home, West Springfield, followed
by solemn Requiem High Mass at Immaculate
Conception Church, West Springfield, at
9:30. Burial will be in St. Michael's
Cemetery.
