Bettie Warfe GAVIN

Bettie was born in VA. We believe she was brought to MS as a 9 year old child -- the slave of John WARF. Our family story says Bettie was traded to the GAVIN family for a horse. She is noted in the 1870 census as Bettie WARFE -- farmhand. She is noted in the 1880 census as Bettie GAVIN -- housekeeper.

She became the "consort" of Robert Lewis GAVIN who did not own slaves. Together, they had 17 children.
