John C Knight according to the Knight Family Bible was born on 16 August 1830 (See Uploaded Image).  His father George Knight was enumerated on the 1830 Marion County, Mississippi Census, so there is a likelihood that John C Knight was born in Marion County, Mississippi.  John C Knight can be found on the 1840 Clarke County, Mississippi Census, accounted for in his fathers’ enumeration (See Uploaded Image).  John C Knight can also be found on the 1850 Clarke County, Mississippi Census in his fathers’ house (See Uploaded Image).  On the 1860 Clarke County, Mississippi Census John C Knight is found as a head of a household on Page 66.  On 12 March 1862 John C Knight was enlisted into Captain Ferrill’s Company F, 37 Regiment, Mississippi Infantry Volunteers at Desoto, Clarke County, Mississippi by M. L. Moody for a period of 3 Years or the War.  John C Knight was Captured/Surrendered on 4 July 1863 by/to General Grants U.S. Forces at Vicksburg, Mississippi.  However, he had already been “Wounded in Trenches Severely” at the Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi and died 15 July 1863 at Hospital of the Confederate States, Vicksburg, Mississippi from those wounds.  According to an Inventory of Money of Non-Commissioned Officers and Soldiers Deceased at Hospital of The Confederate States, Hospital Number 28, Vicksburg, Mississippi, Remaining Unclaimed by Their Legal Representatives, John C Knight had $20.00 Dollars in his possession when he died.  This Inventory was created by Surgeon M. R. Fontaine.  John C Knight’s wife Artamissa Dearman Knight received his Due Pay on 28 December 1863.  John C Knight left no children.  An Oath of Allegiance to The United States of America, signed “X”, “His Mark” was dated 13 July 1863, Vicksburg, Mississippi.
