Margaret Estella LARMAN-LEWIS-LAWLOR-1962, a Grandmother of mine.

My Grandmother, Margaret claimed her first marriage was 1916, I have not yet gotten the marriage certificate, but on Joseph Irving LEWIS' death certificate, she is listed and their" only son-Howard Irving LEWIS, also born Washington DC.

Washingtonian. Margaret and her first husband divorced, I assume in Washington DC, my father Howard, her only son is living at this time in Marley Neck, Maryland.  Anne Arundel Co., Maryland.  Her only son Howard Irving LEWIS, is now age 90, he was August 2008. My father, her son Howard was one of the co-inventor's of the ZIP CODE, his last job, the one he retired from was the main post office in Washington DC.  He retired from the US Governement, as the Special Assistant to the Postmaster General. Her son Howard married once to a Marie Louise ELFERS, who was born in NYC on Feb., 08, 2001 and died in Marley Neck, Maryland December 14, 2001 of heart failure. My Grandmother had only one child, as mentioned above, he had two children, at this time both his children are still living.  One is retired from the US Government and still lives in Maryland, though said he was going to move in about 2 years, probably to another state.  Margaret's son graduated from both University of Alabama and the University of Maryland.  His wife, Marie went to SMITH COLLEGE, for women. Her ONLY Grandson, graduated from University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland.

On the 1920 fed census taken in Washington DC, for some reason, my Grandmother seem's to be living with her brother Allen E. LARMAN, the census is under Allen E. LEWIS,  It should have been Joseph Irvin LEWIS, they were probably in the process of getting a divorce.  the reason, I know, this is Margaret Estella LARMAN-LEWIS-LAWLOR, one of my Grandmother's is living right nearby as well as Mildren LEACH, her oldest sister.  Her mother was using her second married name Susie FOSTER, in 1920, Washington DC.

My father always said he lived with his Grandmother, IN 1920 FED CENSUS, I haven't found my father yet,(1920) but, maybe I will find him with another relative soon.

19220 fed census, taken in Washington DC, this Allen E. LEWIS, looks like it should have been Allen E. LARMAN, Jr., Margaret's brother and a "Fill-in" i guess for Margaret's first husband, which she married at age 16 and they divoced by 1927, so they were probably estranged?

According to the 1940 fed census, taken for DC, My Grandmother, Margaret's first husband-Joseph Irvin LEWIS, was in prison-1940.

He was not in prison  in 1930 nor 1950.  He died in 1955, Washington DC. I don't  have any info as to why he was in prison.

 

Joseph I. LEWIS, was the father of my father, as a result of Margaret's first marrage.
