Margaret E. McAmblay passes away
September 14, 2008 | 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY
TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Margaret E. McAmblay, 90, a lifetime resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died on September 14, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was a Homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity. Margaret was born in New Bedford, MA, but spent her formative years in Arlington. She would tell all, on many occasions, about the great times she had with her large family growing up in the Depression. Margaret was the cornerstone of her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and was known affectionately as "Cuddy" by her great granddaughters. Her most enjoyment was spending time with her family especially sharing meals and the holidays. She loved her home and you could always find fresh cut flowers she would arrange in her front window. It is difficult to sum up the life of a wonderful lady like Margaret, but Bill and Margaret would watch the movie Casablanca time and time again. There is a song called "As Time Goes By" with the lyrics: A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh. The fundamental things apply As time goes by. And when two lovers woo, they still say "I love you," On that you can rely, no matter what the future brings, As time goes by... Born Sept. 5, 1918 in New Bedford, MA, she was the daughter of John Angus and Ellen R. Burke MacIsaac. On Nov. 2, 1945, at Holy Trinity, she married William H. McAmblay, who predeceased her in May 20, 2002. Survivors include son, Tim and daughter-in-law, Brenda McAmblay of Pleasant Valley; daughter, MaryAnne and son-in-law, Tom Forgette of Pleasant Valley; brother, Edward MacIsaac of Poughkeepsie; brother, Marty MacIsaac of Poughkeepsie; sister, Hazel Raquet of Poughkeepsie; sister, Shirley Klein of Rhinebeck; grandchildren, Matt, Brian, Heather, Darren, Mary Beth; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jordan; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Daniel, Harold, Francis, Angus, Fred and Duncan, Sr. and sister, Mary Ellen Shade. Calling hours will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, from 2-4pm at William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 3: 45pm, in the Funeral Home, with Msgr. Brinn officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, Attn: Memorial Donations Dept., 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
