Stories

Virgil Monroe Ladd

Western U. S.

My Father Virgil Ladd was born in Kooskia, Idaho in 1923, he was the youngest of 4 children, his Fathers name was Rosco H. Ladd and his mother was Nellie M. nee Koenig Ladd. His siblings were Edna Ladd, Leonard Ladd, and Alden Ladd (Alden never lived to adulthood he hung himself at about 14).

My Father and Mother were married at the end of WWII, the had known each other since they were 9 years old. The marriage didn't last long as they were divorced right after my birth in 1950, Lawrence James Ladd is my brother who was born in 1947,  my father had five wives Madeline(our Mother), Jean, Betty, Viva, Jenny Patricia. Dad had a peculiar sense of humor, as he referred to Mom and Pat as the Alpha and the Omega, but for my self I could never ask for a better Father. We had one half sister Katherine whose mother was Betty, Kathy died of Pitutary Cancer when she was 4, in Central Point, Oregon.

There is much more to say about my Father, he was Manic Depressive, a trait passed on via his Mother who got it from her Father August C. Koenig, and the gene has traveled down to Virgil's Great Grand children.

The best part of Virgil Ladd is he didn't give up on anybody no matter how bad it got, he Loved deeply and had a very difficult time expressing it. He was in the Second Invasion of Normandy in WWII, and came home with a great value for life , because I think he had seen so much death, you always knew when he was really ticked off cause he would slip back into German, a language I learned from Poppa and Grandma, kinda one of those survival things, my Dad had a great sense of humor I get that from him, maybe a little twisted but we liked it, He has 3 Grandsons, 6 Grandaughters, and some where around 25 Great Grand Children at the moment.

Pop believed in a little Red wine in the evening, and was a deeply spiritual man.
