Stories

Walter Newton Bradburn is my Father He died Feb 24 1960. He joined the Military in Feb of 1918 at Camp Travis, Texas. Training camp for cavalry at the age of 21. June 29 served with Squadron 307 of Army Field Remounts at France U.S. Military and Naval Forces, USA. In Jul 19,1919 he wa Discharged home to Oklahoma.

Walter Newton Bradburn, is also my father.  While serving in France in the calvary where they received, inspected the animals & conveyed them to the artillery.  After the armistice was signed, he remained in France for 6 months.  All horses & stock that remained were sold in France & Germany.  While serving in this unit he was kicked in the head by a horse & had a metal plate put in, he was also shot in the leg.  Although they had no terminology or diagnosis during the early wars, today he would be considered to have PTSD.

He was a brave & wonderful man, a very gentle soul.  Having been raised on a farm in Oklahoma he loved working with the horses & stock.  He was his four daughters "HERO."  Glenda Bradburn Schoen
