Carl Allen Borland, born 19 January 1888 in Mercer county, PA to John Borland & Belle Boylan. He is a descendant of Revolutionary War veteran Aaron Boylan II of Mercer County, PA. Carl served with the U.S. Army from 15 August 1917 to 03 Oct 1919 with the 161st Depot Brigade, 14th Company at Camp Grant, Illinois as a 1st Lieutenant. He died on 31 March 1961 in Orange County, CA & is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress, CA.

His government headstone application provided the above information. Additional information that was on the back: "1st Lt. Inf. Sec. ORC Appointment terminated honorably Jan 30, 1920 (or 30?) Active duty for training only". (ORC probably Officer Reserve Corps)

His WWI draft registration card has "Candidate ROTC Infantry" in military service section.
