306th Infantry, Co. L, A/S Infantry

Military.wikia.org and history.army.mil/books/wwii/okinawa/ench11.htm: The 306th Infantry Regiment was a National Army unit organized for service in WWI as part of the 77th Infantry Division in Europe. It later served in the Pacific Theater in WWII, first seeing combat during the liberation of Guam in July 1944, served in the liberation of the Philippines, arriving there in November 1944, and fought on Okinawa from 27 April through 27 June 1945, the period in which Harold [Harry] died.

On Okinawa, the 1st Battalion Landing Team (BLT), the 306th, secured Kerama Retto and Keise Shima for the assault on Okinawa. Leaving on 25 April, relieving the 96th Division 28 April 1945, fighting its way slowly against extremely heavy Japanese resistance, the division drove to Shuri in conjunction with the 1st Marine Division, occupying it 29-31 May.

The division landed in Japan in October 1945 for occupation duty, and was inactivated a few months later, 15 March 1946.
