A history of his naval service from his son - "Floyd Myhre served as an Engineering Officer on the battleship USS North Carolina. He was the Executive Officer on the destroyer USS McCalla, DD-488 which he served on during the battle of Guadalcanal in 1942. In 1943, he assumed command of the USS Buchanan, DD 484 and continued fighting in the Solomon's Campaign until 1944. He returned to the US where he commanded the USS Alfred A Cummingham, DD 752 a new destroyer under construction in NY. After commissioning, the ship participated in the Okinawa Campaign and served in Japan and Korea."
