The Rev. Francis Alan Gould

Clifton Park, Dec. 12 -- The funeral of the Rev. Francis Alan Gould, who died Wednesday at his home here, was held yesterday afternoon from St. Luke's Episcopal church, Mechanicville, the Rev. David G. Huntington officiating. Burial was in Clifton Park cemetery.

The Rev. Mr. Gould, who was at one time rector of St. George's Episcopal church in Clifton Park and formerly in charge of the missions at East Line, Round Lake and Jonesville, died from spinal injuries received while in the service of the government during the world war. He was the son of Neil Stewart Gould and Anna E. Trimmer Gould. He was born in the town of Richmond, N. Y., October 28, 1868. He was a graduate of DeLancy Divinity school, Hobart college and Endymion Military school, Geneva. Also of the Chicago law school, having the degree of LL. M. He was ordained deacon of St. Peter's church, Geneva in 1893 and ordained priest two years later in Christ church, Rochester by Rt. Rev. Arthur Cleveland Coxe, bishop of western New York.

He was author of "Waymarks In Church History." In 1905 he was made a member of the faculty of Association Institute of buffalo and later became principal of the Buffalo Nautical school, having previously been awarded the degrees, passed master of steam vessels and compass expert.

In 1913 he came to eastern New York and was given charge of the missions at East Line, Round Lake and Jonesville and later was made rector of St. George's church, Clifton Park. He answered the call for officers experienced in navigation at the outbreak of the world war and was commissioned lieutenant in the United States naval reserve force. He was assigned to the U. S. S. West El Casco and brought that vessel from Seattle, Wash., to New York city, where it was put into transport service. He was made chief navigator on the transport Panaman and received the spinal injuries in a submarine attack off the New Jersey coast, which resulted in his death.

The survivors are his wife, formerly Alice A. Shamp, two daughters, Olive Katherine and Alice Frances Gould, his mother, Mrs. Anna E. Gould, and one brother George C. Gould, all of Clifton Park.
