Harvey Green Bolin was born on May 31, 1921 in the state of Washington, to Harvey C. and Rose Lee Kupinski Bolin. His parents were listed on the 1920 U.S. Census as residing in Fairfax, Pierce County, Washington.

By 1940 Harvey and his family had moved to West Virginia. His father passed in 1941. When Harvey registered for the draft on February 16, 1942, at the age of 20, he lived in Montcoal, Raleigh County, West Virginia. He was working for Colcord Coal Company. His family later moved back to Washington state.

Harvey enlisted in the Marine Corps on August 10, 1943 at Tacoma, Washington. By October of that year he was training at Camp Elliott in San Diego, California. He was trained as a infantry rifleman (MOS 745). In January of 1944 he was assigned to the 42nd Replacement Battalion, Fleet Marine Force, and was listed as a Private First Class. In February he was assigned to F Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force. They were shipped to Saipan in the Marianas Islands.

The Battle of Saipan was fought from June 15, 1944 through July 9, 1944. The island was close enough to Japan to allow American planes to reach Japan and return to Saipan. It provided runways big enough for the B29 Superfortress bombers to take-off and land during bombing raids on mainland Japan. Harvey was killed in action on June 22, 1944 during the battle to take the island.

Harvey Bolin is interred at the Mountain View Memorial Park, Cedar Plot, in Lakewood, Pierce County, Washington.
