SSgt. Roy Horton was lost aboard B-25J (tail number 44-29671) flying with the 17th Reconnaissnce Squadron (Bombardment), 71st Reconnaissance Group out of Birch Strip, Ie Shima, Japan. The crew was on a local training mission over the Ryukyus, in light rain, taking off at 1230 hours when they were last seen. There was no radio contact after take off.

An SAR from the 91st Reconnaissance Wing Air Sea Rescue was sent out to find the missing aircraft and crew, but no sightings were made.
