Earl's first duty station was Fairbanks, Alaska. He was a train engineer responsible for moving coal cars from 1958-1959. While there, Earl would lose the tip of his right fore finger. A heavy barrel rolled over the end of his finger, "taking it with it" as he says.

He moved to Mrytle Beach, South Carolina where he worked in the Transportation unit from 1959-1964. He continued to work on the rail system but was also involved in air freight.

His next duty station would land him at Sewart AFB, TN (1965-1969). During Earl's time there he would primarily be involved with Quality Control.

In 1969 Earl would find himself in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, where he would spend one year. He was a load master during his assignment there.

His last duty assignment would be Dover, Delaware from 1970 to 1974. He continued to be involved in transportation but his main job was connected to the AMO dump.

Except for the motor pool, Earl has worked every position connected with the mission of transportation for his time period.
