Edward J. Smith

World War I Veteran

Edward J. Smith of Glenwood Gardens, a veteran of extensive World War I service, who was gassed on two occasions, died Oct. 3 at the Kingsbridge Veterans Hospital after a four months' illness, it was learned today. A military funeral was conducted Oct. 7 with burial in the National Cemetery at Pine Lawn, L. I.

Mr. Smith was a native of New York City and a graduate of the College of the City of New York. He was formerly a pharmacist in New York and was in the Railway Mail Service for a time. He came to Glenwood Gardens from New York 11 years ago.

Serving with a machine gun detachment in the Army's First Division, New York, Mr. Smith was a veteran of two and a half years' overseas service in the first World War.

He was a member of Glenwood Post, American Legion.

His wife, Mrs. Geraldine Smith, survives.
