John A Gray Military Service

Enlisted March 10, 1862 at Spring Place, Murray County, Georgia as a Private in Company A, 39th Georgia Infantry ("Cohutta Rangers," Cummings' Brigade), C.S.A.  Captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863; paroled in April 1864.  Last on roll April 30, 1864.  [ Film Number M226 roll 24 ] 

Buried at McFerrin Hospital Cemetery, Bolingbroke, Monroe County, GA

His wife Nancy applied for a Widow's Pension #16969 in 1913 in Faulkner County, AR, stating that he had died "at Macon, Georgia in the hospital about the last day of August 1864."
