Stories

Buchanan was captain of the CSS Virginia during the Battle of Hampton Roads. It was the first battle between two ironclad warships. During the battle, he climbed to the top deck and was shot in the thigh by a sharpshooter on the USS Monitor. The battle was a draw. Buchanan eventually healed from this wound and went on to other battles.
