Charles L. Milroy

Charles Leo Milroy, 75, a retired tour leader supervisor at Roosevelt-Vanderbilt National Historic sites, and former policeman in Millbrook, died Tuesday Aug. 23, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Catherine Murphy, Freeport, L. I. He was a former resident of Rhinecliff.

The son of the late Lafayette and Susan Garvey Milroy, he was born in Rhinecliff, Nov. 19, 1890.

Mr. Milroy began duty July 3, 1940, as the first protective employe of the Franklin D. Roosevelt library. When the full guard force was completed, he was made sergeant of the guard and in 1946 when the functions of the Public Buildings Administration were transferred to the National Park Service, he became a member of the Park Service protective force with the same title. In 1957 he was made tour leader supervisor, a position he held until his retirement in 1950.

Mr. Milroy served in the U.S. Navy in the World War I. Before entering U.S. Government service in 1940, he served 10 years with the New York State Police and from 1933 to 1940.

In addition to his sister with whom he resided, Mr. Milroy is survived by two more sisters, Mrs. Nellie Lynch, Huntington, L. I. and Sister Mary Virginia, Mount Saint Mary's Academy, Newburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

A High Mass of Requiem was offered at the Church of Our Holy Redeemer, Freeport, L.I., by his nephew, the Rev. Parker Milroy, Maryknoll Seminary, Park Summit, Pa. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rhinecliff.
