PERFORMING THE WORK TYPICALLY ASSIGNED TO THREE MARINES PER VEHICLE, LANCE CORPORAL BARBOZAFLORES WORKED IN EXTREME TEMPERATURES IN EXCESS OF 18HOURS A DAY COMPLETING SL-3 INVENTORIES AND PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE CHECKS AND SERVICES FOR THE COMPANYS TWENTY-FIVE LIGHT ARMORED VEHICLES. AUSTERE ENVIRONMENT AND LIMITED RESOURCES LANCE CORPORAL BARBOZAFLORES ENSURED THE COMPANYS VEHICLES HAD THE REQUIRED ELECTRONIC COUNTERMEASURES, KEVLAR BLANKETS, AND NIGHT DRIVING EQUIPMENT NECESSARY FOR COMBAT OPERATIONS. Achievement Medal for professional achievement while serving as Driver, Light Armored Vehicle-Logistics Variant, Company D, 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade from 4 May to 14 June 2009 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 09-2. The following is a summary of his accomplishments during this period:

As driver for the Company LAV-L, Lance Corporal Barbozaflores worked hand in hand with the company

Operations Chief to plan and prepare the logistics for the companys deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. When the companys expected deployment date shifted to a later uncertain date, Lance Corporal Barbozaflores volunteered to go forward with a limited contingent of three Marines in order to continue preparation for the companys arrival in theater.

Upon their arrival in theater, the Marines of the advanced party provided valuable assistance as the battalion carved out its place in the austere conditions of Camp Leatherneck. Lance Corporal Barbozaflores focused his efforts on the tasks most influential to combat operations, directly assisting in the daunting tasks of construction of the battalion ramp and receiving and transporting the battalions 73 Light Armored Vehicles and numerous MTVRs and MRAPs from the receiving lot to the battalion ramp. His dependability and tireless work ethic established a positive reputation with the Battalion Maintenance Management Chief, Battalion Maintenance Section and the camp Electronic Counter-Measure Section and facilitated the company maintenance section smoothly transition upon arrival.

Continuing to provide assistance to the battalion as they established their presence at Camp Leatherneck, Lance Corporal Barbozaflores devoted his extensive effort to counteract friction points anticipated by the company.

Accomplishing a task typically requiring three Marines per vehicle, Lance Corporal Barbozaflores conducted SL-3 inventories and the preventative maintenance checks and services on the companys twenty-five Light Armored Vehicles, Common 22 Maintenance trailer, and two 105 Motor Transport trailers. Lance Corporal Barbozaflores corrected deficiencies within his ability, and identified additional discrepancies for maintenance personnel. Additionally, he established and implemented a company standard operating procedure regarding the placement and composition of the bulk water, fuel, and lubricant jugs on the vehicles while simultaneously ensuring all jugs contained the proper type and quality of fluid. Recognizing the probability of nighttime operations, Lance Corporal Barbozaflores initiative in checking the operational status and inventory on thirty-two Drivers Vision

Enhancers facilitated the ordering of parts and added a combat multiplier to the company.

Amidst his duties of preparing the companys assets for combat, Lance Corporal Barbozaflores saw to the logistical needs of the company by establishing berthing, inventorying serialized equipment, and creating the consolidated memorandum of receipt in order to facilitate the arrival of the company.

Despite the multitude of tasks, Lance Corporal Barbozaflores remained focus on the mission working in excess of eighteen hours a day in temperatures exceeding 120 degrees. Lance Corporal Barbozafloress hard work and determination over forty days kept the company on pace with the battalions forward deployed company, facilitated a seamless transition from RSO&I training to combat operations, and is worthy of recognition through the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
