My name is John James Dozier 1121984. I was PFC in Charlie Battery, 11th Bn., 1st Marine Div., in Korea from June 1951 thru May 1952. I met Ace when we trained together at Camp Delmar, Oceanside, CA. He and Dick Edwards and I were close friends.

A few brief memories:

We used to chew tobacco, then stick it in each other's pocket!! I was married, and Ace used to call my wife The Gunny. He and Dick came down to San Diego where I was living, for a visit. My wife fixed waffles for all of us for breakfast. We were living in a tiny apartment, so tiny we couldn't walk around the kitchen table! So it was really crowded with three big Marines in there. This was the last home-cooked meal Ace had. When we reached Korea we were separated into different groups. Dick and I went to the 11th Marines. Later Ace volunteered for reconaissance. I heard he had been killed when he stepped on a land mine.

Years later I met a man on an airplane, and he told me there was a memorial for Ace at his high school in Vincennes.
