Marcel F Onraet Born in 1918 as the second son of a French immigrant ( Emile Lucien Onraet ) got enlisted in the USAAF on 12-June-1941 with serial number: 13028110, after his training he got transfered to the 15th AF (Air Force) - 304th BW (Bombardment Wing) - 456th BG (Bomb Group) - 744th BS (Bomb Squadron) based in STORNARA, Italy. He was 2LT (second lieutenant) in the U.S. Air Force, a second lieutenant may supervise flights of varying sizes, depending upon the career field, as a flight commander or assistant flight commander or may work in a variety of administrative positions at the squadron, group, or wing level. On the 456th BG group mission number 125 of 22-Sept-1944 a total of 25 B-24 planes took part that day from which 2 planes did not return, officialy enlisted as lost by FLAK (Fliegerabwehrkanonen) - AAA (Anti-Aircraft-Artillery). Marcel was enlisted in one of these two lost planes as co-pilot of a B-24 Liberator Heavy Bomber with serial number 42-78407 which took part of a consolidaded group of 366 B-24's and B-17's escorted by 270 fighters bombing the NE industrial area of Munich and Munich/Riem A/F. According to official US documents (MACR 8756) the B-24 bomber of Marcel got lost above Otterfing, Germany. Otterfing is located 20 miles south of Munchen/Reim airport. When the Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933 they knew they would need to replace the small, old, grass flying field, the "Oberwiesenfeld", on the north side of downtown München, site of the 1972 Olympic Summer Games. One of Hitler's favorite architects, Dr. Ing. Ernst Sagebiel, designed a new civilian traffic airport and began to build it near the Riem Horse Race Track, 15 minutes straight east of the city. The new airport was called Flughafen München-Riem and it went into service in 1939. With the war, civilian traffic dwindled and Riem Airport was converted into a Luftwaffe Fighter air field. After World War II, München-Riem was one of the most modern airports in Europe. Marcel F Onraet is buried at section 12 site 6189 618 of Arlington National Cemetery, VA 22211
