Stephen Green Knott is the son of David William & Lundy Knott of Granville, County NC

Four of David and Lundy’s sons served with the confederacy: William H., John H., Stephen G. & Robert W. Two of their sons would die in service. William Henry is killed June 27, 1862 during the Seven Days Battle for Richmond, VA. John Henry is captured at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House May 12, 1864. He dies from disease May 26, 1865 in Elmira, NY – Union prisoner of war camp. Stephen Green Knott is wounded four times and is sent home in Feb. 1865 he dies April 27, 1915 at the age of 73. Robert Wilson Knott, the youngest son, will be pressed into the Junior Reserves at age 17. He participates in three battles including the South's last stand at the Battle of Bentonville against Sherman's march north from Georgia. He is wounded twice. Robert dies June 2, 1913 at age 67.
