The 6147th Tactical Control Group began with three pilots and two aircraft in an attempt to test the airborne forward air controller concept. Originally used were a L-17 and T-6. Due to the early success of the concept a tactical control squadron was activated at Taegu to provide target spotting information to tactical aircraft while in flight.
