USAF RB-50G ("Little Red Ass") tail number 47-145 was shot down 29 July 1953 by two Soviet Russian MiG-17 "Frescos" over the Sea of Japan, south of Askold Island near Vladivostok, by Soviet pilots Aleksandr D. Rybakov and Yuri M. Yablonskii. The left wing was shot off which downed the aircraft. (Note: Some sources state the Soviet aircraft were MiG-15 "Fagots").

This aircraft was serving TDY with the 91st Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Yakota AB, Japan. Their home base was at Forbes AFB, Topeka, Kansas.
