Thomas A Boon was born 1836 in Pickens County, Alabama, the son of Thomas D (Daniel) Boon and Margaret Clarke Craig.

CONFEDERATE MILITARY SERVICE

The three sons of Thomas Daniel Boon and Margaret Clarke Craig; Corporal T A (Thomas A) Boon, Private R N (Robert Newton) Boon and Private B J (Belton J ) Boon, all enlisted into B Company, 8th** Regiment Mississippi Cavalry . The 8th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama; and the troops, including the Boon brothers, were paroled at Gainesille, Alabama on May 12, 1865.

Corporal T A (Thomas A) Boon enlisted 9 Sep 1863 in Okolona, Chickasaw County, Mississippi, by Colonel Magerney, for a 3 years period into B Company, 8th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry. On 25 Sep 1863, T. A. Boon appeared on the Company Muster Roll for Captain H. H. Shckelford’s Comany. Duff’s Battalion.

This organization subsequently became Co. F, 8th** Regiment Mississippi Cavalry.

The 8th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry was organized September 10, 1863, as the 19th Battalion Mississippi Cavalry. It was increased to a regiment February 15, 1864, and know as Duff’s Regiment Mississippi Cavalry until designate d the 8th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry by S. O. No. 169, A. & 1. G. O. dated July 19, 1864.

Roll of Prisoners of War of Company B, 6th Mississippi Regiment Cavalry, Confederate States Army, commanded by Capt. Beam, surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama by Lieutenant General R. Taylor, C. S. A., to Major General E. R. S. Canby, U.S.A., May, 1865, and paroled at Gainsville, Alabama, May 12, 1865.
