His time in service

Camp Morton

My great grand uncle was named after the famous explorer Christopher Columbus.  He had a twin brother named Napoleon.  Christopher enlisted on January 26, 1862 in Springfield, Missouri.  He was in Co. H. 2nd Missouri Infantry.  He was wounded in the arm and in the Hospital from August 10 to August 15 of 1862.  He was in several Civil War Battles: Carhtage, Wilson's Creek, Lexington, Elk Horn,  Mississippi he was captured by the Union Army.  He was sent to Camp Morton in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 7, 1863.  While there he became sick and died April 27, 1864 eight months later.  His father had to pay $500 for his care during his final months in captivity.
