Weston's parents are Elisha and Anna (Wright) Vaughan.

He is the direct descendant of Mayflower Pilgrim Francis Cooke.

Weston & his 7 brothers all fought in the Civil War. All came home safe & sound. He volunteered for 4 years not just 2 and was paid a bonus for doubling his service. With the bonus, the family believes this is how he bought land in Mattapoisett, MA and why many of his descendants were born in that town. He was in the Co. E of the 32nd Massachusetts Infantry.

He not only has a veteran's medal next to his stone at Cushing Cemetery - his family has also honored him with a memorial on Find-a-Grave and here on the FOLD3 website.

When he was young he was a mariner. He then became a cordwainer during the "cowboy" days and eventually worked in the cotton mills making bed spreads (mill operative) and in the furniture business when he was older.
