Stories

Died in Hospital at Gallatin Tennessee.  His father went to Tennessee and brought his body back to Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, Indiana where he was buried in the Gradeless Cemtery (now called Blue River Cemetery north of Columbia City in Thorncreek Township).   This cemetery was on the farm that his grandfather Nathanal Gradeless bought from the government when he moved to Indiana.   When Nathaniel's daughter died she was buried on the hill under the tree where she used to play as a child.  Nathaniel Gradeless was a veteran of the War of 1812 and came to the Siege of Fort Wayne and was involved in destroying Indian villages in the area and was in the Battle of Eel River.  Josiah died in hospital from illness.
