Brother of Hiram Reed. He was a cooper by trade, but he became a farmer. He was in Tama Co., Iowa, in 1856 and later enlisted and fought with Company C, 10th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment, in the Civil War. On July 31, 1861, he was ordered into quarters. On September 6, 1861, he was mustered into US service. He left US service on September 28, 1864, at Kingston, Georgia, when his enlistment expired.
His death was reported in the Toledo Chronicle on May 27, 1892, "We learn that William Reed of Nebraska, formerly of Highland, died in that State a few days ago."
He was born aboutn 1827 in Funkstown, Washington County, Maryland and was the son of Jacob and Mary M Reed.
